Serbia and Eastern Europe Have Much To Discover

Belgrade
The capital and largest city in Serbia as well as a city often reputed to have the best night life in Europe, Belgrade is only a short train trip away. Strategically located, the city has seen 115 wars and has been razed 44 times, more than any city on Earth. This history has given Belgrade an unusually rich civic, intellectual, and cultural life, influenced by the many countries and peoples who have fought over this area for centuries.
Subotica
Under the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Subotica developed rapidly at the end of the 19th century. The result is some of the finest examples of Hungarian Secession architecture, a distinctive branch of Art Nouveau.
Historic Sites
As befitting a crossroads of many different civilizations, countries, and peoples, Serbia is home to a diverse collection of historic sites, often reflective of the religious and/or political realities of the region. From the Roman Empire (Serbia was home to eight Roman emperors) through the religious struggles between Christian Europeans and Muslim Ottomans, the country has a wealth of places to explore.
National Parks
From the bucolic scenery of Frushka Gora to the wild mountains of Tara to the deep gorges of the Iron Gate, Serbia's national parks are surprisingly diverse (and surprisingly numerous) for such a small country.
Budapest
With the opening of a new high-speed rail line in 2026, one of Europe's most beautiful cities will be reachable for a quick day- or overnight trip. Blessed with outstanding Belle Epoque and Art Nouveau architecture, a vibrant spa culture, and many fine restaurants and cafes, Budapest is only two hours away.
